FA Clover & Son (or simply Clovers) was established in 1917 by the Great-Grandfather of the current owners, Frederick Albert Clover. His family had been previously involved with gas lamp lighting and FA Clover saw an opportunity to undertake the painting of their local gas works.
By 1921 he had secured the contract to paint the country’s largest gasholder ‘Jumbo’, located in the East End. Other notable pre-war contracts included painting the then new Fulham Power Station and the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. Post war and the company went from strength to strength as many of our cities were rebuilt.
Later the company worked overseas undertaking Mast and Tower painting for the BBC and MOD in such locations as Cyprus, Singapore, U.A.E, Nigeria and the Ascension Islands. By the time the fourth generation of family had joined FA Clover, we were working on such prestigious projects as the new Lloyds Building in the city, Canary Wharf Tower, the QE II Bridge (the Dartford M25 Crossing). The then new AELTC Wimbledon No. 1 Court and once even held the record for the largest painted logo when painting the roof at Brentford’s Griffin Park Stadium.
One of the factors that has led to our successful longevity is the comprehensive and prestigious client list we have cultivated – the quantity of our repeat orders stands as a testament to the quality of our customer focused service.
